snowmobiler

march 21 was a snow day for omaha public schools. actually it was the second of two consecutive snow days, but this one was nicer because most of the day was a thaw from the previous day and night, and so it was nice enough for me to don my snowboots and go on a long walk with my dog.

on my way south i was passed by a snowmobiler, which besides being noisy and disruptive, is also illegal. i have to insert here that my husband's preference is for motorized travel on trails of this sort, though his vehicle of choice is a four-wheeler. he has actually invited a friend of his to come to our house some weekend so they can ride my trail together--at night of course. i strongly disapprove, but i fear that my opposition will have no effect.

being a diplomatic sort of person i can see the appeal of four-wheeling instead of walking. you could cover more territory, see more of the trail. it would be nice when walking to at least have someone come and pick me up at the end of my walk because as it is i have to spend half of my time retracing my steps. it does hinder the exploration aspect. on the other hand, the noise and speed would cause me to miss the cardinal songs (i had to stop walking in order to better listen to two cardinals singing back and forth, practically echoing it was so clear), the bluejay, the woodpecker, the bunnies, the squirrels, and the exercise. i doubt the snowmobiler knew there was anything out there except himself.

i didn't see him again by the time i got back to my car. the snow was melting and almost gone by that time and i like to think that perhaps he got stuck and had to walk.
