why i laughed in church

yesterday as we were getting into the pickup to go to church tim looked into the rear view mirror and said, "oh man, my hair's all sticking up. why didn't you tell me?" well, i had noticed earlier that he had a little tuft standing straight up on the right side of his head, but i forgot to mention it and the moment passed. "oh well. no one will even notice," i thought.

later on in church kris, our student pastor, asked tim to come up with him onto the platform and do the offering call. so they did all of the preliminaries and it was time for the offering. tim stepped up to the pulpit and said, with his usual farmer-like manner, "good morning. i forgot to comb my hair this morning. amy didn't tell me to look in the mirror before i left the house." and he went right on with the offering call. the church chuckled but i, unfortunately, could not recover so quickly. he caught me off guard with his little joke and i looked up at him when he first mentioned his hair; seeing that tuft standing straight up in the air was just too much for me. i started convulsing. i laughed so hard i cried. i laughed all through the offering call, the offertory, the offering prayer, the opening hymn, and the first few minutes of the sermon. every time i thought i was alright i replayed in my mind, "good morning. i forgot to comb my hair this morning. good morning. i forgot to comb my hair this morning," and saw that little tuft standing straight up. it was just so ridiculously funny to me. i only wished i had someone else to giggle with; i have no idea what everyone else in church thought. but even alone, i enjoyed my moment of mirth.

for my girls (the blood-related ones)

the other day i was in a good mood while i was making supper and was acting a little crazy: singing loudly, dancing in a jazzercise sort of way, flirting with the hubby trying to get him to laugh at me, which he did. he said, "you know, i think you have a little bit of your mother in you." (see her post on october 14, "Dancin' on the Ceiling.") i agreed, except that my panties don't match. i added said that probably more than a little of that came from my grandmother as well. if you don't agree then you've never heard her morning warbling. she'll even polka with you if you ask nicely. then, of course, there's my sister angela. 'nuff said there. we're a crazy bunch when the mood is right. i'm happy to have the crazy gene. thanks, ladies.

for ellen

a couple of weeks ago we got a new paraprofessional at school named theresa castle/cassel--i'm not sure of the spelling. so anyway, she comes to our room sometimes to take one of our students to a special class and mrs. haverman says, "daniel, mrs. castle is here for you." or "daniel, it's time to go with mrs. castle." i wasn't sure why the first time i heard her say "mrs. castle" it kind of caught my attention and seemed vaguely amusing.

but then i remembered.
